Shine a Light on Your Home Gym

When the pandemic hit people started working out at home, and as with the start of each new calendar year, the focus on health is renewed. Peloton bikes sales are higher than ever, it seems that everyone now has their own set of dumbbells and the entire world was doing yoga classes on YouTube, and downloading exercise apps. Now, gyms have reopened, and memberships are high, just like normal at the beginning of a new year, but the home gym is here to stay. Why? It’s easy, you don’t have to go anywhere, and it’s so easy to step away from a work-from-home day to get some exercise in. But one thing that shouldn’t be overlooked in home gyms is lighting. Just like in the home office and your living areas, lighting affects every activity.

Start with Natural Light

If you’re working out during the day, natural light has the ability to give us energy. Natural sunlight improves energy and focus. It’s natural to be a little less motivated on cloudy, dreary, sunless days, so this makes it easier to understand how natural light works to give us energy. If your room has windows, combine natural light with room lighting. For the best way to harness natural light and manage it, think about motorized shades and scheduled scenes for your day. You can make the most of sunlight, control the temperature when it's too hot, and have privacy. All with the touch of a button.

Use Recessed Lighting

In an exercise area, you don’t want to use hanging light fixtures, especially considering the ceiling height. You might be doing jumps, swinging a kettlebell, or other things that could smash a light fixture. Your best bet is to use recessed lighting in the ceiling.

Smart Lighting

Smart lights can be set to match time, and temperature to set the tone for a great workout! From cooler, bright hues to warmer, red, and amber tones. Imagine turning your lights to daytime hues for energy for an intense workout or setting it for warmer, relaxing tones for your after-work yoga workout. Smart lighting is great addition to any home gym.
